This impressive former coaching inn overlooking the town 'Square' dating from 1461 is a centre of community life, with a large lively public bar, pleasant dining area and a quiet restaurant to the rear. It can also caters for private functions in a separate room.

It is a hotel but open to non-guests with breakfasts available. At the rear is a covered courtyard with seating and cycle parking.

Regular events are held, from discos and bands to charity events.

Charles Kingsley, of 'Water Babies' fame, is said to have stayed here.
